CCID's Mission, Vision, and Values
Mission:
The mission of the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity is to enhance the experience of all Caltech community members holistically through education, advocacy, cultural exchange, leadership development, and coalition building. We serve as a hub of resources and partner with various stakeholders to advance inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility both at the Institute and within the scientific community.
Vision:
To foster an inclusive scientific environment at Caltech.
Our Values:
The CCID's goals, priorities, and objectives are rooted in our core values:
Advocacy & Coalition Building
We achieve progress by cultivating meaningful relationships that empower people to address and find solutions to problems that improve communities through access and resource-sharing.
Cultural Exchange
Through storytelling, we create space for people to engage with the intersections of culture and science. We do this through heritage programming, affinity spaces, STEMinars, digital education campaigns, etc.
Education
Rooted in social/racial justice frameworks, the CCID facilitates dialogues, workshops, and collaborative programming that challenges folks to think critically about the world and how they contribute to the scientific environment.
Leadership Development
Using IDEA-centered leadership pedagogies, the CCID offers advising, inclusive mentoring, research connections, various trainings, and workshops that allow our community members to reflect and develop their skills and tools for career readiness in STEM and beyond.
Our values guide how we approach our work, initiatives, and programs as we strive to create an inclusive and equitable science environment for all.
