All admitted incoming first-year Caltech students are eligible to apply for FSRI. However, the program is currently only able to fund domestic flights at this time due to logistical and funding constraints. Students needing to travel internationally in order to participate in FSRI are expected to cover their own travel expenses.

We are expecting a cohort of 24 - 30 students for summer 2026.
All major costs are covered by the program (e.g. travel* to Caltech, housing, meals, field trips, bedding and toiletries, etc.). Participants are expected to bring their own spending money, clothes, medication, and other personal items.

The FSRI summer session is a 13-week experience (6-weeks virtual and 7-weeks on campus).
Yes, however, the program is only able to fund domestic flights at this time. Please note that all international students requiring a student visa must secure their visa prior to the start of FSRI in-person programming.
Yes.
Yes, student athletes are eligible to apply and participate in FSRI. Please note that FSRI has a strict participation policy, however, thus it is best for student athletes to consult with their respective coaches before applying. If the practices and training of a fall sport will directly conflict with FSRI summer programming, the student athlete can be disqualified and removed from FSRI for failing to fulfill their commitment to the program.
